The Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) requires an extensive on-going cooperative planning effort for programming federal funding addressed by the act. The Regional and State Transportation Improvement Plan is developed by incorporating into a single document the programs funded by the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration. Each year, the Region receives approximately $1,590,000 in highway improvement funds and $150,000 in transportation enhancement funds.
UERPC also assists with regional transit planning through a contract with the Iowa Department of Transportation. The Transit Development Planning Program for Iowa’s Regional and Small Urban Areas is designed to promote transit planning programs that furthers the development of the state’s public transportation systems.
