NOTICE OF AN OPEN HOUSE & REQUEST FOR PUBLIC INPUT
EPA Brownfields Assessment Funding Opportunity
The Upper Explorerland Planning Commission is preparing two EPA Brownfields Assessment Grants to investigate properties that might be impacted by hazardous and/or petroleum substances within Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Howard, and Winneshiek Counties. The open house is being held to gather community input regarding the preparation of the application, discuss project implementation in the UERPC service territory, and to inform the public about the Brownfield Assessment project and process.
Brownfields are defined as "real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant."
The Open House will include a short presentation at 5:30 PM and offer opportunities for those attending to ask questions and provide input in the preparation of the application. For those unable to attend, information and opportunities to provide input is available at the UERPC office, 134 W. Greene Street, Postville, Iowa, and posted at all county courthouse buildings within the UERPC service area. Additionally, the UERPC Internet Web site (www.uerpc.org) provides opportunities for public input on the preparation of these applications. Comments, questions, and suggested revisions can be submitted to Vicki Bloxham via email at vbloxham@uerpc.org, or as found under the contact list on the UERPC web site.
UERPC will conduct the Open House at 5:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission, 134 West Greene St., Postville, Iowa. Any interested parties are encouraged to appear at the Open House for the purpose of seeking information or providing comment on the proposed EPA Brownfields Assessment Applications.
